Amidst all the recent doom and gloom in the markets a bit of positive news from Daiwa Capital Markets today.

Maia Kawai-Calderhead, who works in the HR division of the Japanese investment bank, is taking part in the “Fukushima Challenge” which aims to raise money for the British Red Cross Tsunami Appeal.

Maia and her brother Bill will respectively cycle and run 100 miles around London within 24 hours, starting at 0546 on 10th August and finishing by 0546 on 11th August, exactly five months after the Japanese tsunami struck.

The 100-mile distance is in reference to the length of the exclusion zone around the Fukushima nuclear reactor which failed after the disaster earlier this year. Maia and Bill hope the charity event will help to raise Londoners’ awareness of the size of the disaster.

Maia aims to raise at least ¥10,000,000 (just over £76,000) for the British Red Cross Tsunami Appeal. To find out more about this charity event, and to support it, visit the Fukushima Challenge website by clicking here.
