Short selling skyrockets in India’s cash market

The volume of stock lending and borrowing rose by nearly 20 times in the second half of 2010, according to NSE India’s data

Short selling in the Indian cash market has risen dramatically in recent months, The Times of India reported today.

According to data from the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India, the volume of stock lending and borrowing increased in the second half of 2010 to 7,400,000 shares, which was a huge rise from the 380,000 shares traded in the first half of the year.
