Securities Lending Cash versus Non-cash Debate - part two

As a follow on from my last post I have received a number of comments from people directly and in various fora that I am part of.  So while I was planning on doing a post on the issue in the future, I feel compelled to respond now in brief.

Securities Lending - IMN Conference: Cash versus Non-cash Collateral

The question of cash versus non-cash collateral has been the subject of much debate since the summer of 2007 when the first wave of what became the credit and liquidity crunch first hit the markets.  It is therefore an important issue for the IMN conference.

IMN Securities Lending Conference: Central Counterparty Panel

It looks like this year's event is throwing up a lot of interesting discussions.  Either that, or the coverage this year is better and more timely.  I am going to use the reporting as the springboard to make my own comments as I wasn't able to be at the event this year.

Securities Lending Demand and Technology

The signs of recovering demand for securities borrowing are still shaky.  According to a Thomson Reuters story last week, "Cross-border merger activity rose to $96.6 billion for year-to-date 2011, up 59% from this time last year and the strongest start for cross-border M&A since 2008."

Obviously.

We are already more than 1/12 through the year so I assume everyone's plans are being enacted. I am curious as to the priorities for your firm this year.

Securities Lending Education and Training

The year has been ablaze with demand for securities lending training.  I started last week with one agent lender doing a customised in-house session, followed by the FinTuition course yesterday and today and the ISLA/FinTution course on the 25th January.

Stock Lending - The Final Word for 2010

Ok, so I couldn't resist one last message.

Securities Lending - Last Word for 2010?

It's about noon GMT on Christmas Eve.  Based on the calls I've made this morning, and the emails I've sent out I may be the last person still at his desk in London.  I'm  calling it a day in a few minutes and will spend the afternoon eating some of the baked goodies my wife and kids have been making over the past couple of days.
